What is Alyssa’s Law?

Alyssa’s Law requires schools to implement silent panic alarms that directly notify law enforcement in an emergency, such as an active shooter situation. The goal is to reduce response times and ensure that first responders can act as quickly as possible to protect students and staff.

Key Points of Alyssa’s Law:

  • Mandates silent panic alarm systems in schools that immediately connect to local law enforcement.
  • Designed to improve emergency response times during life-threatening situations.
  • Enacted in multiple states, including New Jersey, New York, and Florida, with efforts underway for federal adoption.
  • Aligns with school safety initiatives by integrating with emergency notification systems for faster alerts.

*As of now, Alyssa’s Law has not been enacted in Connecticut. However, legislation is currently under consideration.
